Cigarette may have caused fire in old-age home

The death toll has dropped to 12 in the devastating fire that gutted a Nkandla old-age home in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday night, the South African Broadcasting Corporation reported on Wednesday. Earlier reports said that 15 people had died. Radio news reported that a cigarette may have caused the fire.

Buthelezi: Govt undermines traditional leaders

KZN doctor cleared on treatment charge

The KwaZulu-Natal health department has dropped a misconduct charge against rural doctor Colin Pfaff, following a storm of protest, the doctor confirmed on Thursday. Pfaff faced the charge for administering dual therapy -- two antiretroviral drugs -- to prevent the infection of babies born to HIV-positive mothers.
