Online Conference: GIBS/PPS healthcare industry insights 2021

An online event like no other as we grapple with not only prognosis, but treatment.

Battered and bruised – the world and its people took a beating from an indiscriminate virus that has wreaked havoc on economies and lives.

For some time, South Africa has been grappling with health issues, but the pandemic has placed healthcare squarely at the forefront in all of our altered lives. The complexity of this multifaceted sector requires us to respond and resolve differently, to collaborate and co-operate for the greater good.

It is a harsh reality that of the over one billion doses of vaccines required for various preventable diseases, only 1% are manufactured on the continent. Vaccine inequity, higher prices, stockpiling by wealthy countries pose an ethical and very real dilemma. What have we learnt about our healthcare systems, capacity and capabilities, and more importantly, what’s the plan? What are we going to take away from our newly gained knowledge and insight, and how does it translate into a better quality of life for all?
