[ICYMI] ‘Do not violate the rights of our people’: Ramaphosa tells army ahead of lockdown

At midnight tonight, South Africa will become the latest country across the world to institute a national lockdown to control the spread of the new coronavirus.


President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasises the need to respect the rights of South Africans as the military is just hours away from deploying to patrol the country during a 21-day lockdown to stem the spread of the new coronavirus.

Earlier, Ramaphosa has announced that confirmed cases of the new coronavirus have topped 900 as he the nation shortly before speaking to security forces ahead of Thursday’s national lockdown to stop the spread of the new coronavirus. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has now said the total stands at 927.
